About Lamia
Lamia originates from Greek mythology.Referring to a serpent woman race or figure originating. It typically describes a female being that is half-human and half-snake.
In legend, Lamia was a tragic queen in Greek mythology. She was originally a beautiful queen of Libya who became involved with Zeus and was drawn into conflicts among the gods. Out of jealousy, Zeus’s wife Hera cursed her, causing her to lose her children and gradually transform into a monster.
In the earliest versions of the myth, her appearance was not strictly defined as a “snake woman.” Instead, she was more often depicted as a monstrous or cursed female figure, with the fully serpent-bodied form developing in later interpretations.
Over time, her image gradually evolved toward a “half-human, half-beast” form, eventually becoming a hybrid creature resembling a serpent or other animalistic entity.
During the Middle Ages in Europe, Lamia merged with various folk legends, and her image became intertwined with other nocturnal demon-like figures. Lamia was no longer seen as a single mythological character, but rather as a broader category of terrifying female monsters.
By modern times, especially through video games, anime, and fantasy worldbuilding, Lamia underwent its most significant transformation. It became standardized as a creature with an upper human body and a lower serpent body. In fantasy works today, “Lamia” is often used as a synonym for “snake woman.”
Design Inspiration
Today, we would like to introduce our Skalor snake doll, which is also a custom project.
When we received this commission, we became very curious—why are so many people interested in dolls like this? From the client, we learned that her name is Skalor. She is a fan-modified character from the Ninjago universe, belonging to the species “Hypnokobra.” She is portrayed as a queen with a highly seductive presence. The general term for snake-women like her is “Lamia,” and she is also considered to fall within the furry category.
We found this concept very interesting. First, there are currently no similar products on the market, which makes it a new and exciting direction to explore. In addition, Skalor is a female snake character with a long serpent body, which closely matches our focus on fantasy dolls.
